Terms of Service

Effective September 16, 2026

These terms govern your use of the Allocate iOS app and this website (together, "Allocate"). By creating an account or using Allocate, you agree to them.

1. What Allocate is (and is not)

Allocate is a bookkeeping tool for shared expenses. It records who paid for what and computes who owes whom. It is not a payment service, a bank, or financial advice — no money moves through Allocate, and settling a balance in the app does not transfer funds. Balances shown in the app are informal records between you and your group, not enforceable debts created by us.

2. Your account

3. Your content

You own the content you add — group names, expense descriptions, photos, receipts. You give us the limited license needed to store it and show it to the members of your groups, which is how the product works. Don't upload content that is illegal, infringing, or abusive; we may remove such content or suspend accounts that post it.

4. Groups are shared spaces

Anything you add to a group is visible to that group's members, including each member's activity feed. Members with access to a group can add expenses that involve you and record payments. If you disagree with an entry, resolve it with your group — we cannot arbitrate whether a dinner was really $60.

5. Acceptable use

Don't attempt to break, probe, or overload the service; don't access other people's data; don't use Allocate for anything unlawful. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

6. Price

Allocate is currently free, with no ads and no feature limits. If that ever changes, we will say so clearly in advance — existing data will never be held hostage behind a paywall.

7. Termination

You can stop using Allocate at any time and delete your account in the app (Profile → Delete account) or via the Data & Privacy forms. We may terminate or suspend access for breach of these terms, with notice where practical.

8. Disclaimers

Allocate is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We work hard to keep balances accurate and the service available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service or error-free calculations. Always confirm large amounts yourselves.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for disputes between group members. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the last 12 months (currently: nothing).

10. Changes to these terms

If we make material changes we will update the date above and note the change in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Allocate after a change means you accept the new terms.
